Baby boomer generation has much to give, much to celebrate

By ROBIN CORNETET, Kentucky Today

SOMERSET, Ky. (KT) – Baby-boomers have more time and energy than any generation before them to share the gospel and reach the lost, said a Kentucky Baptist missions leader.

“This generation isn’t planning to just stroll through their golden years,” said Doug Williams. “They are taking active roles in churches, going on overseas mission trips and volunteering with disaster relief.”

Williams, Kentucky Baptist Convention’s mission strategist, will be applauding those efforts and encouraging others to get more involved in ministry and discipleship at upcoming Senior Living Celebrations.

It will be a time of learning and fellowship when seniors gather at one of three locations in April. The theme of this year’s event is Race of a (My) Lifetime taken from Hebrews 12:1-2, which encourages Christians to “run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

The first celebration is scheduled for April 16 at Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Somerset, Ky., and followed by a stop at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown, Ky., on April 17 and, finally, on April 19 at Second Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Williams will be joined by other experts in the fields in evangelism and discipleship for two 60-minute workshops, include topics such as being single and serving God, creative drama ministry, and turning everyday conversations into gospel conversations. There will also be representatives to help with navigating state and federal legislations, and estate planning.

Fun is included, too, with comedian Dennis Swanberg, a pastor and author of “No More Secrets” and other books.

Register before April 9 for a discounted rate. For more information, visit www.kybaptist.org/seniorcelebration.

Senior Living Celebrations and other events provided by the Kentucky Baptist Convention are made possible because of gifts through the Cooperative Program.
